The biggest mistake job seekers make is assuming that their network knows they need help. While people are naturally inclined to be helpful, they aren't mind readers.

To get traction, you have to be specific and vocal. Here are some examples of asks that could help you.

  • Ask your inner circle: Reach out to friends and family. Don’t just say you’re looking; tell them exactly what kind of roles suit your goals.

  • Ask business owners: Connect with leaders in your industry. Ask them to keep you in mind for upcoming needs or to introduce you to colleagues.

  • Ask your dream companies: Don't wait for a job post. Reach out to companies you admire and ask about their growth plans or upcoming openings.

Build Your Leverage - While you’re busy asking, make sure you’re also building. Don't wait for a background check to start gathering social proof;  ask for letters of reference now.

Having these testimonials ready to go gives you immediate leverage the moment a door opens. The Bottom Line is, job searching doesn't have to be a game of chance. By moving from

"waiting" to "asking," you take the wheel and create your own momentum.
